We, Brothers is set in Chicago in 1942 and follows two brothers involved in the mafia as they confront the weight of loyalty, memory, and betrayal. The film’s transatlantic English dialogue and noir atmosphere evoke the golden age of classic American cinema while maintaining a distinctly Brazilian sensibility through Jones’s direction.

The LABRFF awards ceremony also celebrated major Brazilian names. Reginaldo Faria, one of Brazil’s most respected actors, was recognized for his remarkable career and contributions to national cinema. Bárbara Paz, acclaimed actress and filmmaker, once again stood out for her ongoing impact on the festival circuit. Marianna Brennand, filmmaker and producer, was also among the evening’s distinguished winners, reinforcing the strength and diversity of Brazilian voices abroad.
